General. To:- McF/VL{V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} C:- Hgt Wat VS{J. Vickers} JRB ============= 44 Ex - Weekend 12th and 13th December 205 miles 9.11 mpg The milage was covered about one-third slowly in fog, one-third making up time and one-third normal motoring. From each of two cold starts the engine behaved adequately for two and a half miles and then died when the car stopped at a traffic sign at the foot of a hill. Each time the engine restarted readily. On another occasion the engine was started and left running on fast idle for one to two minutes during which time it appeared to lose two or three cylinders. It fired evenly after a burst of wider throttle. The car would be easier to drive in fog at night if it had a Citroen-type light switch below the steering wheel, instead of a pegboard of odd knobs with the vital one at arms length. It would also feel safer if kick-down were more easily obtained. It is difficult to see traffic from the left at a 'T' junction because the strongly curved edge of the windscreen together with the pivoted window in the door constitutes a wide blind spot. The door-open check on the N.S.F. door came apart such that the door could not be closed. It is now loosely reassembled. The rear seat occupants failed to find how to get fresh air with the division up. With the windows closed there appeared to be no source of oxygen and with the windows open the rear compartment filled with fumes. Noise level is generally too high, particularly from the road, engine and gearbox, screen wiper and starter motor. Tin | ||
