JAPAN 3. LEFT HAND CHASSIS.

Please find attached prints LeC. 2863. and 2865. dealing with the above.

These prints are from rough schemes shewing the proposal to use a righthand engine unaltered in a left hand chassis.

It is necessary however to take the exhaust down at the front as we did on the front half of Phantom 1.

We have not attempted to make a finished design of the exhaust pipe.

LeC. 2863. legislates for the extra ignition but now that we have your views on the P. 2. chassis we assume that the magneto can be washed out on Japan 3., and double battery ignition substituted when two sparking plugs per cylinder are required.

This removes some of the difficulties in connection with the left hand scheme assuming that we can find a satisfactory method of dealing with two battery ignitions.

We are looking into this particular point, and also the question of the timing gears at the rear.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
