For the attention of Mr. L.J. Lambourn.

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your letter of the 10th inst.

The figures you sent for cornering power on various tyres will be very useful. There are, however, one or two further questions we should like to ask. With regard to the graph showing the relation between slip angle and lateral force, giving a maximum lateral force of just over 700 lbs., could you let us know what is the weight on the tyre during this test.

With regard to the other graph, we wonder whether you have got figures for the vertical deflection rate of a tyre fitted with all the rims in question. Obviously it is no use going to a wider rim if the increase in discomfort is more than the gain in cornering power. We imagine that if we were to standardise a rim about 1" less than the tyre section we should have to run at pressures less than we do now.

If therefore you could send us a table showing the vertical deflection rate plotted agains the rim width, this would afford a complete answer to the best wheel to use.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
