U.W. X766 Thn5/14.8.24. UW By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ex.bdg. c-bdg. Re overheating 16- LM. Nicholls for Ubertallie. There is a serious complaint of overheating with regard to the above car. Copies of the complaint memos were forwarded to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} under memo EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/T8.8.24. For Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}'s information the car is fitted with a high radiator (standard size) has a high compression engine, high speed fan, and a louvred bonnet. By has suggested after consideration, that the only thing which could be done was to supply a radiator having a matrix 1 1/4" deeper than the one at present fitted, which would give the customer the largest radiator we have yet produced. We have now received a further memo from Sales Dept. Ref.Sgl5/BM/12.8.24/copy of which we attach. It will be noted from this that BJ has agreed that a Radiator 1 1/4" deeper should be put in, and we shall be glad if By will instruct accordingly, although it will be noted that PN{Mr Northey} is very doubtful as to whether this is going to effect sufficient improvement, and we think it is probable that PN{Mr Northey} is right in this respect. We should be glad if By will reply to paragraph 6 and 7 of sales memo attached- or let us have the necessary information to incorporate this in our reply to this memo. We will arrange to deal with the car when it arrives, and send one of our people out with the car when the work is finished, unless it could be arranged for the official who is to be sent out to carry out the investigations and tests on the Continent with regard to overheating generally, to also demonstrate the Ubertallie Car to customer, after it is returned from the Works. The point brought forward by BJ in the P.S. of Sales memo, should be a matter for investigation by the Official who goes out to the Continent to carry out the tests of this overheating trouble.
