LOW INERTIA SPRING DRIVE - PHANTOM II.

In connection with the above spring drive, which may be standardised shortly, there is one point which we would like to bring forward.

The starting handle is not directly connected to the shaft nose, but through the spring drive. The effect of this is that when anyone attempts to wind the engine with the handle, the impression might be given that there is something loose.

That is possibly more important however, is the result to somebody who tries to time the ignition, and who in doing so, pulls the engine up to T.D.C. with the starting handle. If he sets the timing and then starts the engine, the spring drive will go back on to its other stop and the timing will be out by 12° or so.
