All our tests go to prove that if we can only prevent the oil being sucked through the inlet valve guides, we shall have no trouble with over-oiling in the cylinders. There is no doubt that we are getting far more oil than necessary on to the rocker mechanism. It requires only the least amount of to keep it well lubricated. We are trying to reduce the amount of oil which gets on to the valve by filling up the grooves in the rocker, also stopping up the oil hole in the rocker shaft which is on the valve side.

We are also testing some of the schemes of new valve spring washers which will prevent the oil draining down the step.
