(6) You expect to have the Mr.Cord type of matrix available in approximately six weeks time.

(7) You will forward to us the two car heater models which you have so that we can carry out tests etc. on them.

(8) You will ensure that no further reconditioned Mk.V. matrix units are sent out with leaks in them.

We have discussed with our Mr.Goodall the return of some of the 25/30.HP. matrices which you had corrected for waterways dimensions etc - he says that you may relay on him to do his best to help you with these blocks which are being corrected, but he says that the ones returned recently have gaps between the bottom tanks and the matrix of the order of 0.200", which of course makes them useless for production.

We are returning to you -

(1) A standard Ph.III. Mk.Vl. {V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} matrix and bottom tank - this matrix had the bottom tank dip-soldered in by you when it was made and the bottom tank has been removed for examination.

(2) A Ph.III. Mk.V. matrix off an experimental car - this has silted up.

We should like you to examine the first matrix and bottom tank and let us have your remarks on its condition - we consider that the sweating of the tank to the matrix is not satisfactory - partic-ularly at the corners and at the junction of one side plate with the bottom tank - the solder does not appear to have penetrated to any depth. Further, we are disturbed to see that the waterways are very definitely not properly open - you will remember that you expressed the opinion that if the bottom tank were dip soldered on when the block was made, there would be no question of any ax waterways being closed up. Actually this is precisely what has happened and it is impossible to detect this until the bottom tank is removed. We should like your opinion on this point as we are about to standardise this feature shortly.

We should like you to clean out and open up the waterways of the Mk.V. matrix unit (as you are doing for production Mk.V.units) and return same to us as soon as possible, marked 'for the attention of Mr.Steadman'. When you have examined the Mk.Vl. {V. Lewis / Mr Valentine} matrix (which had tank dip-soldered in) mentioned above, we should like you to open up the waterways and return it to us without top and bottom tanks.
