CHASSIS IMPROVEMENTS. X3806 X5770

We must anticipate that owing to the intensive work being put on to aero engines, that chassis improvements are likely to be delayed. Practically the whole of the improvements which have been standardised are now actually being fitted to the production cars. Taking into account the unavoidable delay from the time parts are standardised until they get into production, it means that there will be a long period with very few improvements being added to the chassis.

We consider one of the most urgent improvements and one which would be immediately appreciated by the users of our cars is a central lubrication scheme for all chassis parts. We have frequently been criticised by the number of lubrication points on our chassis and how inaccessible some of them are. We have proved without a doubt that if the lubrication is carried out methodically the amount of wear and noises on chassis parts is considerably reduced.

Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} has just returned from Springfield and whilst he was there had an opportunity of examining one of their cars which had run several 10,000 miles and he considered it had worked very well indeed. Springfield's experience is that they set out to only central oil the essential or inaccessible points but they found it worked so satisfactorily that they have now coupled up the whole of the oiling points in the Bijur one-shot scheme.
