To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Hdy.{William Hardy} c. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} 402. 1015- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}5/MH.{M. Huckerby}12.8.38. REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIALS. We are now almost certain that AC.2 is unsuitable material for differential washers and bushes. We have been endeavouring to find an alternative to bronze as it is too quickly corroded by the latest hypoid oils. The new semi-floating axle seems to need such an oil. The object of this memo is to confirm our having asked Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} for a drawing showing hard steel washers and bushes which will be fitted to 8.B.V. before it goes to France.
