X.4138 RE PRIMING DEVICE.
----------------
We have been urged a number of times by London to suggest a more convenient position for the Priming Cock Handle, than at present. It is pointed out that the present position is very difficult to reach from the driving seat, and that if it is done from the ground one turns on the cock from one side of the car, and walks round to the other to work the pressure pump.
We think that the trouble experienced is probably much exaggerated, and in any case it appears to be very difficult to get as sound a mechanical job as at present with the priming cock operated off the instrument board, for instance.
In order to obtain your views on the subject we have prepared a scheme "N" Scheme 367 shewing two suggested methods of operating the cock from the instrument board.
This is in conjunction with the proposed channels for wiring, as this leaves a space near the highest point of the dash through which we can get an operating shaft without too great an angle between the dash and the instrument board.
Fig I shews the first suggestion, which is that the existing position of both cocks and shaft should be maintained, but that on the cock mounted on the dash a lever should replace the present handle, and this lever should be coupled to another lever working on a spindle at the highest
Contd.
