(3) E.1/HP.14.10.35. the compact nature of the power unit. The purpose of this memo is not to suggest stopping the Wraith engine which should be nearing completion, but to put up an alternative proposal for consideration. Naturally the Bentley engine policy has to be considered also in relation to the Wraith, but there is less reason for wanting a short engine on the Bentley chassis where space and weight for coachwork is more circumscribed, and furthermore there are strong technical reasons why a vertical type of engine should be retained in connection with valve gear and supercharger developments.
