W/S. X 3117. CX.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}8/KT.31.10.32. re. D.W.S. JACKS (Cx.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}1/KW.26.10.32.) We did not choose D.W.S. Jacks before having tried the Jackall system. We had a car fitted up with the Jackall system at Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s request, and turned it down for the following reasons. (1) Too much unsprung weight at the outer ends of the front axle, liable to produce steering troubles, (the D.W.S. system employs only one jack on the front axle fixed centrally where it does not affect the steering). (2) The system depends on non leaking hydraulic joints and pipe lines to work correctly, and these are badly carried out and usually are found to be faulty at the infrequent occasions when the jack is used. (3) The system requires a certain amount of periodic attention to keep it up to scratch, i.e. oil replenishing, examination of pipe lines and joints etc. (4) The jacks themselves are unsightly and on the front protrude through our front apron. (5) The system is more expensive in the first place and cannot be fitted up until the body is finished complete on the car; it is costly to fit up. The D.W.S. Jacks can be fitted on the chassis in the Works in less than an hour. (6) The method of fixing the jacks to the axles is crude and the brackets bent badly the first time the car was raised off the ground. (7) The jacks themselves leaked oil and left a pool on the ground each time they were used. We agree that the Jackall system is very impressive but from a utility point of view the D.W.S. system is undoubtedly superior. It is a much better made job in every way.
