49940 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c.c. to Cj. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M27.10.22. 40/50 FRONT WHEEL BRAKES X.4488. We send you herewith N.sch. 1343 shewing the new Goshawk type joint which Mr. Royce wishes used on the 40/50 with front wheel brakes. In doing this joint we have taken the opportunity to set out the clearance with the brake drum guard (which we previously asked Derby to do) and as a result we wish to increase the length of the cross steering arm to 8", and to lower the cross steering tube .2". This latter will be no disadvantage as at present the tube has to be set down in the middle to miss the flywheel casing on the engine. This modification will reduce the amount of this set-down.
