- 7 - (II) TYPES OF STEERING GEAR. (a) Completely reversible. Bevel pinion and sector - takes up a lot of room. Spur pinion and rack. Planetary system. RACK & PINION. SIZAIRE. EPICYCLIC SINGER. (b) Semi or partially irreversible. Worm and wheel - worm and segment. This type has not a large area of wearing surface but usually provision can be made for adjustment using another portion of the wheel. Screw and nut. Maximum wearing surface - no adjustment.
