1370 DUNLOP RIM & WHEEL CO, LTD. WITH WHICH IS ASSOCIATED W. GOODYEAR & SONS LTD., (DUDLEY) TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "SOUND, COVENTRY" TELEPHONE: COVENTRY 8633(5 LINES) (PRIVATE BRANCH EXCHANGE) CONTRACTORS TO THE ADMIRALTY, WAR OFFICE, AIR MINISTRY AND COLONIAL AND FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS. FOLESHILL, COVENTRY. YOUR REF. OUR REF. GES/PBC/UT.168. 16th May, 1939. Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. For the attention of Mr.Grylls. Dear Sirs, With reference to our telephone conversation with you last week, we are forwarding for your attention, one 4.50E-16" rim, on which we have provided three elongated holes for the reception of balance weight bolts. The location of these holes in respect to the centre line of the rim, is exactly as shown on our drawing CDS.1551, and these will be suitable for the half-headed bolts indicated on your original drawing GB. 3733. A sample bolt with the head reduced to agree with that shown on drawing GB. 3733, has also been included with the rim. On a production basis, the corner radius between the side and base of the rim will be planished flat, and there will be a corresponding bulge on the outside of the rim. This bulge, however, will be entirely masked by the balance seating block, and will therefore not be visible on the completed wheel. We think you will agree that this offers a satisfactory solution to the objection which has been raised to the use of the 'E' section rim, and we shall be pleased to hear that you can agree to its adoption on the 4.50-16" type 72R wheels which you have on order from us. Yours faithfully, FOR THE DUNLOP RIM & WHEEL CO. LTD. Chas. Sharp. Technical Manager. | ||
