(2) Naturally we are all out to increase the efficiency and decrease the cost & I believe this best way is to make the most reliable job possible.

I am sending you further sketch of my suggested treatment of the spring. RR go to much trouble to round the edges & slott in the pin. I believe it is due of broken springs. so I have suggested we try this which I believe has less stress on the steel.

In treatment of the clutch I now prefer that the notched plate is outside.

[Annotations for sketches]

[Top right sketch of original design]: I think your model too small in dia & split pin & also should be more robust.

[Middle sketch of new design]: Should lie on here for part of the circumference. Ends of the steel.

[Bottom left diagram]:
notched plate tongue to drive but is now sunk into pin.
if it needs driving a short taper plug can be driven into end of pin. rivet over notch plate & plug.

[Bottom right diagram]:
slotted plate to keep end plate straight & make spring as wide as possible when working on.
thin washer each side of the spring, these could be flanged bushes in the holes so as not to be loose parts, if so side plates can be very thin. ie between .025 & .040.

[Vertical text on left margin]:
It is not much trouble & could save time on shafts which need trueing up for location, this is inexpensive.
