To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ORIGINAL HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}8/L.G.18.7.21. X. 805 IGNITION AND LIGHTING SWITCHES. U.S.A. Bosch Switch. We are sending to Mr. Royce a switch which we have received from Springfield which has been made by the American Bosch Company. We consider this switch is better than the Westinghouse which was sent on 4.EX Car but it still leaves a lot to be desired. Mr. Olley has written to say that the Delco people are making them a switch which they think will be better than either the Westinghouse or the Bosch. There are one or two details on the Bosch switch which we think are very good. We consider that the chemical engraving on the front plate is exceedingly well done. If one could be certain of getting a chemical engraving of this quality it would not be necessary to use machine-engraved parts, even on such parts as the controls on the steering column. The raised letters make a cleaner job. The machine-engraved letters collect the dirt. We think the handles for the switches are a very nice clean job, better than those used on the Westinghouse or the Delco. The hollow rivetting on the switch is carried out very well and makes a much neater job than the rivetting used on the Delco Switch. Delco Switch. We are sending also the switch off the Marmon car. We consider that the mechanism of this switch is much better than either the Delco switch or the Bosch. The Delco switch as originally fitted to the Marmon car had a dimming position for contd.
