GENERAL CAR POSITION.

Phantom III.

Completion of 15,000 miles test on Ph.III.

35-EX will be ready to continue the test next week. It is proposed that the running should be in London to begin with as the main outstanding troubles are clutch, overoiling under traffic conditions, exhaust noises, etc., which can be better investigated in a town than on the open road.

Clutch.

We have had a second complaint of jaggers on the standard clutch which wasfitted to 34-EX. We have for some time past been running a clutch with a Rolls-Royce centre which we consider gives a better take-up. This will be fitted to 34-EX when it is returned to Sales, and at the same time we are ordering up some of these clutches for production. The plate is fitted to 35-X for its test in traffic.

Smoky Exhaust & Oiled up Sparking Plugs.

We anticipate that this will be a definite customers' com laint, particularly on those cars used in London. The outside sparking plugs are the ones which quickly get fouled. We are tackling the problem from two sides - (1) Using closer clearance valves and screens to prevent oil getting down the guide. (2) developing a sparking plug which will stand more oil. The parts will be fitted to 35-EX.
