With regard to the question of battery charge, this car has not, up to now, provided sufficient data, since it has been in dock almost as much as it has been on the road.

BATTERY.

Recent life tests have proved that the Dagonite battery is superior to the Lucas. We have been in touch with the Dagonite people with regard to the production of a lighter battery for the B.40, and we have now received a lighter model designated 6-LD-9S.

This compares with the standard Bentley battery as follows:

Standard Bentley. Lighter Type.
Type 6-HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}-9S. 6-LD-9S.
Capacity 49 amp.hr. 43 amp.hr.
Weight 63½ 56 lb. 4 oz.
(complete with acid, (complete with acid,
cover and bolts). cover and bolts).

Thus, for a loss of 6 amp/hours in capacity, we save approx. 7 lbs. in weight.

This battery will be fitted to the Applet when we have taken a capacity test on the bench.

Further development along these lines will be considered later.

STARTER MOTORS.

We have three models under observation:-

1 - R.R. Std.
2 - Lucas M45G.
3 - Lucas M418G.

Weights and outside dimensions, taking overall length to mounting face, are as follows:-

Type. Dimensions. Weight.

R.R. 4" diameter, 9¼" long 23 lb.
Lucas M45G. 4" " 7" "        19 lb.
Lucas M418G. 4.175" " 7½" " 17 lb.
(weight including drive).
