C DEC To R from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to BH. Copy to EPC. X.4299 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}5/CB27-11-20. C X4299 RE 40/50 BACK AXLE RATIOS. X-36775. X3457 --------------------------------------- RECEIVED, with reference to your recent remarks as to axle ratio varying with weight to a greater extent than has been the case in the past, we were asked at a Conference at the Midland Hotel, to take up with you the question of trying a still lower gear ratio on the standard car. We have accordingly made a scheme "N" Scheme 648 shewing gears 14-52 which gives a ratio of 3.71. It will be seen that the metal below the teeth at the small end of the wheel is rather thin, on account of the screw for the extractor, and in spite of the correction that has been given. It is suggested however, that this wheel may be alright, and it is proposed to put through three sets, and test for strength and more especially for possibility of making quiet.
