84057. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux, FRANCE. 16.12.32. 2.PER.II. We have received you memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/MA14.12.32. We are replying direct to London. RE. GEARBOX. Apparently something has, or is, going wrong with the second gear. We cannot see what it is from the inspection cover. There appears to have developed too much movement in the selector shaft, as we are knocking out the small soldered cap in the end of the selector housing. We also have observed, as reported to you, that the change speed lever moves backwards and forwards when in second gear. We shall be dismantling the gearbox before to alter the rubber blocks in the clutch, we will then drain the box and see whether we can find the cause of this extra movement. GWHancock. G.W.H. | ||
