X 4552 S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/BM/3.10.22. RE: DUNLOP FOOT PUMP. With reference to the above, which it has been decided to adopt as standard - and which, we understand, you are having made by Dunlops to suit your requirements: you will doubtless have noticed that this pump is not fitted with a pressure gauge and in view of the importance of cord tyres being run at correct pressures, it would appear that some special action is necessary in this direction. According to Dunlops Catalogue, they do not fit gauges, because they say pressure gauges on pumps are misleading, they do not correctly indicate the pressure inside a tyre and are not recommended. They recommend a separate pressure gauge of the 'Schrader' pattern. If 'W' agree with Dunlops remarks on this point, it would appear that we have to consider the advisability of giving a tyre pressure gauge in the kit when we commence to supply Dunlop foot pumps. The Sales Conference would like to have W's recommendation on this point which they feel is an important one from the point of view that the whole comfort of the car might be spoilt if a Customer runs his cord tyres at say 60 lbs pressure, instead of 50 lbs. - or whatever the correct pressure is that we recommend.
