The narrow patent, which ought to be valid if our broader ones fail, comprises :- (1) R's scheme of foot pressure to rear brakes direct, (not the usual foot assisting the servo) which on its way causes the servo to apply the front brakes, and also help the foot pressure (in parallel) to apply the back brakes. (2) R's scheme of connecting the servo to a balance lever, also of applying RG{Mr Rowledge}'s second lever enabling the servo to assist applying the brakes when the car is moving backwards. This is an entirely different arrangement of the parts compared with RG{Mr Rowledge}'s original arrangement as the foot pressure for operating the servo is on the same shaft as the servo, so it dispenses with RG{Mr Rowledge}'s rocking lever for transferring this force from one shaft to another, and the stress, and complication and inconvenience of RG{Mr Rowledge}'s original arrangement.
