RECEIVED 17 APR 1927 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} w/o (c). c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} +4565 BY12/G.15.3.27. LOW PRESSURE TYRES ON SILVER GHOST CHASSIS. ---------------------------------------- In reply to C7/C10.3.27. we are quite in agreement with the use of 33 x 6.75 Balloon Tyres on wheels with wellbase rims for Silver Ghost chassis, providing of course that the R.R. Hydraulic Shock Dampers are fitted, whether chassis are F.W.B. type or otherwise. We have looked very fully into the question of fitting the above on both types of Silver Ghost chassis, and we give below brief particulars of the points which will have to be dealt with in making these changeovers:- SILVER GHOST CHASSIS WITH F.W.B. ------------------------------- 1/- The new wire wheels with wellbase rims will fit existing hubs without alteration. 2/- Special cross steering levers and tubes will be required in order to make the ends of the cross steering tubes clear the rims of the wellbase wheels. 3/- Special instructions will have to be issued for fitting the hydraulic shock dampers on the chassis frame, and certain special parts will be required for fitting these. 4/- New ball pins, nuts, etc. will be required to replace the parts which will be scrapped when dismantling for the lower connection of the shock damper. 5/- To maintain our standard clearances the coach-work over the rear wheels should be cut away to the extent of ¼" which we recommend should be done in all cases if possible. 6/- The front wings will require bulging out locally to provide clearance for the top connection of the shock damper when in the maximum bump position. 7/- It is possible that some slight modifications will be required to the spare wheel carriers, but this point will have to be investigated in each case, since these have been produced by coachbuilders. | ||
