DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} 87410 BY.1/G.12.10.31. x5410 ROAD SPRINGS. Early this year Messrs. Firths approached us with the object of indicating where they thought economics were possible on the spring design without affecting the quality. Two of the main issues were :- 1/- Rolled eyes all round. 2/- The fitting of a plain clip instead of R.R. type, the plain clip being a bent stirrup riveted to the spring plate. We notice on N.Sch.3335 that you show :- (a) An offset rolled eye at the front end of the front-spring, and the rear end of the rearspring. (b) Central solid eyes for the rear end of the front spring and front end of the rear. We are raising the matter, as in following out Firth's suggestions we obtained two complete sets of springs treated as they suggested, which have since been running in the Experimental Dept. We would like to know your attitude towards these two proposals of Firths. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
