To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}8/JH.12.1.38. 200C 6.B.IV. In view of detonation trouble on the above unit and the fact that at this stage it is not worth altering the existing Bentley pattern to suit the special head on this unit will you please carry out the following, whilst in the shop waiting for the gearbox. (1) Remove existing head and induction pipe. (2) Fit a C and A gasket to EB.3233. (3) Fit a standard production Bentley cylinder head modified by slotting the water holes underneath the sparking plugs similar to EB.3173 which will then match up with the above gasket. (4) Remove valve springs from existing head and fit in same position on the new standard head. (5) Standard induction system to be fitted, using the existing carburettor. (6) Special fitments on the cylinder head including the thermostat water heater tap to be transferred to the new head. (7) Fit if available 3 inlet valves in S/65 material to EB.3460.
