ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. X832 OY1.R.2.10.28 February 10th, 1928. Mr. Robotham, Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Mr. Robotham: RE SHOCK ABSORBERS FOAMING Replying to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/L.G.13.1.28, I don't think we have proved foaming to exist. However the attached experimental report on the foaming of various oils, etc. may interest you. 30% castor and 20% alcohol seems to give best results and would probably be a fair lubricant for the parts of the shock absorber. I think that the higher velocity factor which you say you need, actually exists in the American Houdaille. Don't you think it would be well for you to try out a full set on the car, bump-test chronograph test etc? We have no accurate means of testing them here, but will gladly send you a set. They seem quite excellent instruments and are being put on S. Ghost and Phantom cars by the owners to an alarming extent. Very truly yours, Maurice Olley Encl. | ||
