For the attention of Mr.Martin-Hurst

Dear Sirs,

Confirming our conversation of yesterday, you will alter the two thermostats which the writer left with you, to have stiffened bottom plates. When you assemble these two thermostats will you please set them to commence opening at 78°C. ± 1°C. (instead of the figure of 80°C. which we have previously requested) and fit one with your ball valve casing sweated on, and the other with the same casing merely pushed on as is your standard practice.

We would like you to send us a drawing showing the bottom plate stiffened up by annular rings after the manner of the top plate as proposed, so that we can modify our drawing, and to let us know how the price of the thermostat is likely to be affected by this modification.

We would particularly ask you to urge the delivery of these two strengthened thermostats as much as possible as the proximity of our entering production with this scheme makes it imperative that we should test these units without delay.

The writer will be at Brooklands on Friday and will call at your Works some time on Friday afternoon - if you could possibly have the two units mentioned above ready by then it would be much appreciated.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
