Mr Johnson asks our opinion concerning the requirements of the Duc d'Alba who asks for an L/E type chassis with compression higher than standard on this type of chassis. He also wants to have a very fast car, so we should like to have your Department's remarks concerning the proposal of fitting pistons and connecting rods of the 7 CA type, viz., E.3728 and E.3718, and also of your opinion with regard to the fitting of stronger valve springs E.4247. Will you please let me have these remarks at the earliest possible moment so that we may communicate same to Mr. Johnson. p. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} [Signature with 10/6/14 inside] [Handwritten note in left margin]: HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} XX [Handwritten reply at bottom]: Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} For a very fast car I should recommend an engine built up with the same compression parts as the Radley's Austrian Trials car. This had 70 lbs compression, Conn. Rods E3718 Pistons E 4213 L & E carburettor with larger throats. Valve springs E 4247. This makes a nice fast touring car. For pure speed work we could obtain more.
