RE 40/50 H.P. CHASSIS REAR SPRING PIVOTS.

In connection with the design work on the 20 H.P. chassis rear spring pivots, it was noticed that chassis 7 CA is fitted with pivots having short bosses at the bottom, and long "U" bolts with no features for retaining the top part of the bolts in the correct position on the spring - see sketch.

An inspection of the standard arrangement shewed a pivot with the boss for the "U" bolt the full depth of the forging. Would you kindly say which is being used for pro-duction chassis.

The 20 H.P. chassis rear spring is to be made with a special top plate having features for holding the "U" bolts in the correct position, and thus relieving the bolt stems from any bending moment due to any tendency of the upper part of the "U" bolts to move, owing to spring deflection.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
