For the attention of Mr. McKinnon.

Dear Sirs,

ref. ECM/LJ. We thank you for your letter of the 6th inst. with reference to making our standard 40/50 battery interchangeable with a standard known type. We have considered the two types you mention in your letter namely 3XC13 and 3XC15 and we have decided that the latter will be the most suitable, having a capacity of 87 ampere hours.

We shall be pleased therefore, if you will make up for us for trial a 3XC15 battery fitted with the robust Rolls-Royce elements. It is understood that the nominal working life of this battery would be 4 years. The only difference of any account between the outside dimensions of this battery and our present standard, would appear to be in the width which, from your catalogue, is 1" wider but we think this extra width could be easily accomodated on the chassis.

With regard to the material for the containers, we have a preference for ebonite, but if the use of ebonite entails much extra cost we are content to carry on with Dagenite.

We should be pleased if you will expedite this matter as in the event of this battery proving successful on your trials we wish to fit it to a forthcoming 10,000 mile test chassis which will be going out to France for test very shortly. Will you therefore kindly inform us the earliest date at which you will have this battery ready for trial and if possible the writer will come over to Clifton Junction in order to discuss it with you.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
