Proposals for lightening the propeller shaft and testing various bearings on the Phantom model.

X. 8774 X. 8340 X. 4415 We send herewith N.sch.2474 shewing some proposals for lightening the propeller shaft and thrust bearing on the Phantom. There are three items shewn - (1) a deep groove ball bearing, (2) A Schatz type ball bearing, and (3) a New Departure thrust bearing in conjunction with the existing ball bearing, and Mr. Royce would like you to test them in this order. There is also a proposal for a solid torque tube which is indicated here, but of which we shall send you a drg. on Monday. This involves some alteration to the forward bearing and its lubricating arrangements, wg{Mr Gill - Financial Director} which are indicated on this drawing.
