Copy From: H.BRAMMER & CO.LTD. HB{C. E. Harcombe}/SRR/NH 207, Kirkstall Road, LEEDS. November 10th.1924. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, D E R B Y Dear Sirs, Your Reference ROY{Sir Henry Royce}6/MG7.11.24 We thank you for your letter of the 7th instant, enclosing order No.36572, for 6-5/8" "Brammer" V-Belts. We note that you say that the recent samples submitted have been subject to stretch, and that those previously submitted made from Chrome Tanned Leather, were more suitable. We have tried every Chrome Tannage that is suitable for this work, and we find that under heat, it hardens and cracks, and is therefore not suitable for fan drives on motor cars. The leather used in the belts recently submitted was a Semi Raw Hide, being slightly vegetable tanned, and although there will be a certain amount of stretch with these belts, there is certainly a limit to it. Further the belt will neither crack nor break, and will wear indefinitely. We can take a certain amount of this stretch out, before delivering the belts to you, and if fitted tight in the first place, the belt would need perhaps, two further adjustments, to take out, say two links, and then there would be no further stretch whatever. With regard to your order, We are supplying this, using a Semi Raw Hide Leather, which you will find will give you very little stretch. We will also send you 6 belts made from the very finest Chrome Tanned Belting Leather obtainable, but we will not supply these to your order, as we know that they are not nearly as good as the Raw Hide Belts, which we trust will give you every satisfaction. Yours faithfully, p.p. H.BRAMMER & CO.LTD. H.Brammer. [LABEL] ENCLOSURE No 723 "JUSTSO" [STAMP] RECEIVED 12 NOV 1924 | ||
