Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} BY/Cgh.{W Clough}7/W.4.8.36. "Phantom III" : Tappet Adjusting Screws. With reference to the tappet adjusting screws which were returned to us on account of wear which had taken place, these have now been carefully examined by our Laboratory and it is found that the material, heat treatment and hardness of the spherical face are correct and, although the adjusting screws on 32.EX.are worn in a similar manner but not quite to the same extent,it is considered that the trouble is actually due to the lack of lubricant between the faces of the screws and the spherical seats in the push rods, and we believe that E.is considering this matter as MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}has already pointed out that the valve gear is starved of oil at this point.
