-2- Following the tests on the rig, the helical gear pump was handed over to the Test Dept. who have carried out tests on the road and report that the pump is silent in operation, which is very satisfactory in view of the fact that no special care was taken to quieten the gears and no silence tests were made prior to the road tests. On stripping the pump for examination, following its return from the Test Dept. there was no evidence of any wear having taken place on the thrust washers or casing during the course of the road tests, which included about 200 miles running on various chassis. The helical type gears allow for much wider machining limits than the standard type, and will eliminate the trouble of noise and rattles that exist on the present standard type of pump. RHC.{R. H.
