(Dict. 25th)

Dear Sirs,

In acknowledging your letter of the 18th, we would confirm our telephone conversation wherein we advised you that constructional details of our Racing tyres were such that the power loss figures were lower than those obtained with our normal equipment, and that the use of such tyres in the hands of the general public under ordinary touring conditions was not recommended.

Following our conversation with Mr. Robotham this morning, we are sorry to confirm that we have not available any figures which would give a direct comparison between Standard and Racing tyres in the sizes in which you are interested.

We do not now produce a perfectly plain tyre for track racing, and this type of equipment is confined to World record attempts only.

Our speed tyre for track work is of the three-ribbed pattern, and we have such tyres available in 6.50-16 size, which could be compared directly with the experimental Bentley equipment.

Mr. Robotham stated that you would be prepared to carry out some tests yourselves on this matter, and as we suggested, the position has been put before Mr. Healey, and if you would care to carry out the proposed tests we will supply you with the tyres for these, and at the same time carry out a test independently, with a view to having a general discussion on the subject.

cont'd....
