X.295 EPC2/T17.5.20. To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from EFC. c. to Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to De. c. to He. X.295 - SMITH DYNAMO FOR EXPERIMENTAL CAR. X.3972 X.3478c X.3923 We are handing over to you one of the two Smith dynamo quite recently received, in which the modifications required by us have been made by Messrs. Smith from their standard article, e.g. mica insulation and skewed armature slots. Will you kindly have this fitted to an experimental car at the earliest opportunity. We attach for your convenience a photostat copy of connections in which the wires are coloured. The difference between this and the diagram previously handed to you for the wiring of 4 EX consists in the change in the dynamo and the fact that a three-core cable will now be used from dynamo to switchbox (similar to the three-core cable already used between junction box and switchbox) in place of the four-core cable used with the Lucas dynamo. Kindly note also that the magnetisation of the machine has been reversed so that the terminals actually marked + and - on the machine should be changed to - and + markings, respectively, in order to agree with our diagram and to suit the Lucas scheme in which all the switching is done on the negative side. To make this clear, it is only necessary for Contd. | ||
