To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. 1132 Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/JD.{J. Draper - Frames}10/JH.11.4.40. Single Exhaust System. Senior Range. Attached herewith are 2 prints of PL.163 (2 sheets) shewing the single exhaust system for cars of the senior range. Particulars of the silencer were obtained from an actual silencer supplied to us by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} and are shown on PL.114 of which we also send two prints. The front exhaust pipe from the manifold to the silencer is shown 2.000 in dia. and the tail pipe 1.750 dia. In order to use standard pipe joint flanges we shew the tail pipe attached to the silencer opened out to 2.000 and an alternative scheme using a standard flange machined to 1.750 in the bore instead of 2.000 we suggest that the cheapest scheme be used.
