DY{F R Danby}/NO. [crossed out] c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Toler [handwritten signature] 1235 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}10/G.24.12.37. WRAITH 111. and BENTLEY 111. IMPROVED VISIBILITY OF OIL LEVEL INDICATOR. Herewith please receive E.CD.255 Modified Position of Oil Level Indicator. Wraith 111. Owing to the present indicator being so difficult to see when the engine is in the car, we have moved the pointer to a position on the top half of the crankcase adjacent to the oil filler where it can be easily seen. This of necessity calls for an additional linkage and means are provided for uncoupling the external link when removing the sump from the engine by withdrawing a split pin from the retaining collar at the lower end of the link. It may be found necessary to add more weight to the float arm to balance the increased weight of the extra linkage, the drawing shows how this should be added if required. Will you please detail and instruct the necessary parts to be made, so that the new indicator can be fitted to both the Wraith 111 and Bentley 111 engines as soon as convenient without causing scrap. Sales have complained about the poor visibility of the Bentley 11 indicator, it might therefore be desirable to adapt this scheme to the Bentley 11 engine if it is approved of on the Wraith 111 and Bentley 111 engines.
