HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 11/11/ ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/W10.11.31. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} X5992 Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 20-G-4. - SPECIAL TOURING SALOON FOR R.{Sir Henry Royce} We return herewith the sample wooden finishers about which I spoke to you on the 'phone. You will remember that we asked Park Ward to give up trying to stain oak due to the hardness of the grain making it impossible. All the samples you will notice are in oak, except two in mahogany, and I regret to say they are no good. I feel that it is useless going on trying to get a wooden finisher, on the lines of those I saw on the Kellner body in Paris, for 20-G-4, and suggest that we revert to the sycamore of a greenish hue similar to that used on 26-Ex. The wood needs to be grey rather than green. I will tell P.W. that you are dealing with this matter. With respect to the headlamps on this car you will remember we agreed to fit P.80. and a centre lamp. Derby now say that there is great difficulty in fitting a centre lamp on cars with the lower radiator unless we have a rather unsightly bracket from the front crossmember. It looks therefore as though for this reason, and for the reason of cost, we do not want to use the centre lamp on this car. At the same time we want something better than the ordinary common Lucas lamps with electrically dipping reflectors. You will have noticed that at the Show Lucas' were shewing P.100. lamps with bi-focal dimming, that is, two filaments in the bulb, operating in our case by the same foot switch as used for the centre lamp. Have they any P.80s. with the Lucas/Graves dipping? If so that seems to be the lamp we should fit. Possibly you could find this out by 'phone, and if they have we agree to your obtaining a set. If they cannot provide these lamps we shall have to think of some other way of dealing with the situation. The rearmost wing stay of the front wing will have to be made and supplied from Derby. We agree that the P. W. wing stay would probably give trouble, and will instruct Derby in the course of a few days. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} LID{A. J.
