To Mr. from Mr/MD. Copy to Mr. HV/IB. Ref:AD/A/MT.24.3.41 LAUNCHING WINCH. We have reviewed the necessary modifications required to the Winch, since our meetings with Flying Officer Cronfelat on Thursday and Friday, March 20th and 21st. To date, we have spent five weeks on these designs, commencing February 10th to March 17th, 1941. The following are the major points agreed we should consider doing at Cronfelat's house:- 1 - Cable speed clock to the detachable tensioner, giving cable speeds in miles per hour. 2 - Provision to be made for maximum variations in gear ratios and drum diameters, based on requirements given in the original specification. 3 - As much cable as possible without severely modifying the designs (3500 feet minimum). 4 - A hand throttle on the left hand side of the driver's seat, to open the throttle by pulling towards the driver. A quadrant giving degrees of opening should also be incorporated. 5 - All levers, i.e. throttle, brake, clutch, etc. to be easily operated by the operator. 6 - Gap between the rollers and pulley to have a minimum of one inch. 7 - Cronfelat to get a decision about deleting the spare cable drum, in view of the considerable design requirements which have arisen. 8 - Guards to prevent cable from running off the rollers, also a guard, easily detachable, for the cable drum. 9 - The operator's seat to be accepted as drawn, i.e. open wire cage. 10 - The cable speedometer to be in such a position that it is in line with the glider when taking off. 11 - The guillotine must be re-setable. | ||
