-8- steel rings with the ribs rolled in them, annealed to give a pearlitic structure, and welded to a low carbon disc, seem to compete with centrifuse for the new markets. Pierce Arrow has used them for two years. Shackles The Harris type of rear shackle is used to reduce noise. It also undoubtedly reduces lateral shocks at the rear. The stiff rear body panel also reduces these shocks. The shocks go down as the torsional stiffness of the frame-body assembly goes up. I have not seen Lovesey or Ellor yet.
