Ps. Paris. from hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [Handwritten] X8450 Hsl/LG14. 7.26. STEERING. [Handwritten and crossed out] X8430 X8450 We believe that you will shortly be receiving either steerings or cars in Paris fitted with the .940 lead. This is the type of steering which replaces the present 1.125" lead and can be fitted into the existing steering box. The latest standard steering on the Phantom has .720" lead, therefore the degree of irreversibility with the .940" lead is somewhere about half-way between .720 and the 1.125". With the .940 steering we have standardised springs in the side steering tube with a rating of 1500 lbs/in. The weak springs which we have sent to you for fitting on the original steerings have a rating of 1000 lbs/in. The springs originally fitted and those which are now being used on the .720 had a rating of 3500 lbs/in. As soon as you have an opportunity of testing a car fitted with the .940 lead, we should be very glad to have your opinion. We should like to warn you of course that it is better to give your impression after the car has been run a few thousand miles; the efficiency of the steering will improve with running and therefore the reversibility will get less, in other words, more shocks will be felt by the driver. contd :- | ||
