| X4699 312 To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.6/HP.19.2.34. c. Wcr. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hdy.{William Hardy} NHC. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Clutch. Replying to your memo Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/HP.17.2.34, I still think we are right in going to the two plate clutch. Personally I suspect Ford is changing over to the single plate mainly for reasons of cost on the Lincoln although apparently he protests otherwise. With the independently mounted inner plates which I suggested or your method of coupling by means of a spring ring I think we should overcome the difficulty in engagement experienced with the American method of construction.
