X3994 SECRET. S/W. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to BJ. c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to C. Sgl/M20.12.28. RE. 'SS{S. Smith}' 10,000 MILES. X7770 X7941 Referring to BJ2/E10.12.28. and your reply, Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}3/T13.12.28. in view of the fact that the 10,000 miles has begun and that the Xmas holidays are about to commence, we thought it desirable to draw up a programme to carry out the suggestion of Sales Officials being present during part of the test. We feel that their presence would be of most value towards the end of the test. The programme we suggest therefore is :- 1. That JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} should go out so as to arrive on the evening of Dec. 28th. (by which date we calculate the car would have run about 6000 miles) and be available for the 29th. 30th. and 31st. Dec. 2. That he should be followed by EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} who should arrive on the evening of the 30th. Dec. so as to be available on the 31st. Dec. and 1st. and 2nd. Jan. 3. That he would be followed by CWB. who would arrive on the evening of the 1st. Jan. by which date we calculate the car would have run about 8000 miles. He would be available for the 2nd. 3rd. Jan. by which time 9000 miles would be completed. The car would then be taken over by him and he would be joined by PN.{Mr Northey} who together, would run the last 1000 miles, under the agreed arrangement whereby S. have control for the last 2000 of 10,000 miles test. We notice from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG19.12.28. that it is not proposed to bring this car back to England after the 10,000 miles is completed, but to carry out an examination at Chateauroux and as we attach considerable importance to the traffic tests, we would propose in those circumstances that these should be conducted in Paris or preferably (from a non-publicity point of view) in some other large city in France. Would you please let me know on the telephone tomorrow whether you agree this suggested programme, so that we can make our arrangements in advance before Xmas holidays, and we would, of course, leave it to you to fix up the necessary arrangements with EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} to carry out his part. contd :- | ||
