PEREGRINE EXHAUST SYSTEM.

Attached are some curves (Re.PR30) showing the H.P. loss in the original 'Peregrine' system, and the H.P. loss in the system running in France which has increased area throughout.

Sketch No.728 shows the respective dimensions and weights of the two systems. If we can keep the H.P. loss down to 3 H.P. at 75 M.P.H. on the final scheme we shall be satisfied.

Actually in its ultimate form it appears that we shall have to retain some sort of front expansion box, in which case the weight will not be much less than 35 lbs. At the moment we believe that the amount of "Fishtail" noise that can be tolerated ticking over and at low speeds will dictate the size of the main silencer, to get this Rolls-Royce quality without back pressure requires considerable expansion space. On "Banquort" however, where booms only will have to be eliminated, it should be possible to cut down sizes appreciably.

Ha/Re.
