With reference to the report on 19-EX.,
(see HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/MJ2233.) with automatic shock damper control, R.{Sir Henry Royce} has
made the following remarks, which refer particularly to the use
by the Expl. Dept. of a relief valve which prevents the governor
increasing the damping above a pre-determined amount, with the
result that increase of speed at the highest speeds is not
accompanied by increase of damping when the hand control is in
use.

"We want minimum damping of 40 lbs. ball pin load from
"0 to 40 MPH. At 40. automatic equals minimum, and the
"set on the control valve spring increase so that at 80 MPH.
"it would be 160 lbs. ball load, and at 90 MPH. would be
"200 lbs. ball load, which should hold the car, or it
"indicates you want a larger damper that would go to, say,
"300 lbs. at 90 MPH."
