R.R. F.{Mr Friese} TYPE ENGINES - MAGNETOS.

Referring to the 50 engines which are being produced in the Works of the above type, in dealing with the question of the magnetos I think the best way to deal with the material is as follows :-

a/- We should order one pair of magnetos for our Experimental Department, which could be produced and delivered without necessarily passing the A.I.D.

b/- We should order 20 pairs of magnetos of the improved type, but we should make a definite condition in the order to the effect that if the magnetos which are being put up to the Research Department for type test have to be modified that the magnetos which they are making for us must be similarly modified at their expense.

The magnetos in question are the S.C.12/7 type modified to have :-

1/- Timing range of 30°
2/- Lightened rotor.
3/- Lightened contact breaker lever.
4/- Lightened pole pieces.
5/- Improved method of securing the contact breaker cover.
6/- Improved form of connection on the distributor block for the hand starter magneto is required, similar to that which has been adopted on the F.type to replace that which gave trouble on certain engines.

We would like to have a type number which incorporates the S.C.12/7 magneto modified as above.
