Enquiries are frequently made to our Salesmen in respect of the acceleration on top gear of our latest type Continental 40/50 H.P. Phantom II with semi-expanding carburetter, compared with the acceleration of the previous Continental models with the old type of carburetter.

With a view to obtaining some figures about this, JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} and I made some tests at Brooklands on Monday last, and they are as follow :-

[STAMP: RECEIVED NOV 3 1933]

Two passengers carried. Cut out closed -
10 - 20 5 seconds.
10 - 30 9.4 "
10 - 40 14.8 "
10 - 50 19.8 "
10 - 60 27.8 "
10 - 70 36 "
10 - 80 49 "

With cut out open, other conditions similar -
10 - 40 14.4 seconds.
10 - 60 25.4 "

Acceleration - starting on 2nd gear -
0 - 60 20 seconds.
0 - 80 45.2 "

I am enclosing reprints from articles obtained showing two acceleration curves, one in the "Motor" on Sept. 24th 1929 in respect of the performance of 26-EX, and the other on April 7th 1932 in "Motor Sport" concerning the performance of 31-GX.

You will observe that there appears to be a discouraging falling off in performance since these two cars were made, my pencil curve on these charts indicating the difference. The weights of the cars complete are as follows :-
