We have discussed the problem with E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}, and it is agreed that a considerable increase in bearing area could be obtained on the existing engine.

The point arises as to whether, now that it is proposed to alter the position of the dynamo and water pump, fit a new cylinder head and increase the crankshaft journals a completely new engine would not be advisable.

From an experimental point of view, we would still prefer that the modifications were brought in on the existing unit, because when the new engine comes along we want plenty of time to deal with the question of cost as well as normal development. We do not see why the proposed modification should involve a great deal of scrap with regard to existing jigs, tools and fixtures; a new unit is almost certain to be longer, which will mean modifications to other items on the chassis.
